A Brief History
Microbial Soil Technology was founded in the year 2022. However, the roots of the company go back even further to the year 2020 when Jan Hendrik Groenewald; Maria Geldenhuys and Martha De Villiers, the Co-Owner’s, had a prophetic dream that set the stage for the company's inception.
COVID-19 has had a profound impact on nearly every sector of the global economy, and the agricultural industry is no exception. The pandemic has disrupted the global supply chain, causing shortages and price hikes in many industries, including agriculture.
The shortage of fertilizers had a direct impact on crop yields, leading to reduced productivity and lower quality produce. Farmers rely on fertilizers to provide essential nutrients to their crops, promoting growth and ensuring healthy plants. Without an adequate supply of fertilizers, crops may not receive the necessary nutrients, resulting in stunted growth and decreased yields.
One of the lesser-known challenges that have emerged is the high cost of fertilizer. Farmers around the globe were struggling to cope with the increasing prices of this essential agricultural input, leading to potential disruptions in food production and supply. Fertilizer production has been affected by lockdowns, travel restrictions, and labor shortages, leading to a decrease in supply and an increase in prices. The closure of borders and trade restrictions has further exacerbated the situation, making it difficult for farmers to access affordable fertilizer.
The founders witnessed the transformation and mechanics that the Covid Pandemic brought to the agricultural industry and put it on themselves to develop a system that mitigates most of these challenges.
